Salmon fishing in Iceland is opening soon and Sog river is recognized as one of the finest Atlantic salmon rivers in Iceland. Sog river is only 65 km east from our lovely capital Reykjavik.
Sog river is the largest spring fed river in Iceland and is renowned for its amazing bird-life, beautiful surroundings and high percentage of multi-sea-winter salmon. Also, the Sog river has a very healthy stock of Arctic char and every year char of size 6-7 pounds are caught.
The Sog Bildfell’s beat is a very productive beat and frequently produces the heaviest salmon each year on Sog river, meaning salmon of 20 pounds or bigger.
Accommodation on the Sog Bildsfell Beat is provided in a very comfortable self catering lodge beside the river. The lodge has a very well equipped kitchen for cooking, 4 twin-bedded bedrooms, three WCs & showers, dining and sitting room. Also, the lodge has a separate storage room for your waders and fishing clothing.
The salmon fishing is done with single, switch or double-handed rods using floating or intermediate lines with small to medium size flies early in the season. Most common flies are Red & Black Frances, Blue Charm, Red & Green But, Snaelda, Sunray Shadow and other traditional Icelandic flies.
Only fly fishing is allowed with a catch and release policy.
