United Clyde Angling Protective Association Ltd have been in existence for 130 years and to celebrate this mile stone they are increasing their commitment to get more young people to take up the sport of fishing.
So far they have created youth fishing clubs in Motherwell at Our Lady’s High School and Dalziel High School and have worked with the Blackwood Scout Group for their Angler Activity Badges. SANA coach Jim Mathews has taken over the role as Youth Development officer and is currently planning more activities.
Jim Matthews said “We have had a great response and there is no doubt that there are lots of young people out there interested in angling.”
Daiwa Sport UK have supported this initiative with tackle and funding for future events.
UCAPA Fishery Manager Munro Reid said “If we can just plant the fishing seed, young people hopefully will continue or return to angling when they are older. UCAPA is very much playing a long game”
