Each month we will be sharing fishing events in the UK for salmon and trout offering tuition and advice. This months events include Scottish salmon courses, ladies days in Hampshire and junior salmon, trout days .


Fish Annan Guided Weekend Experience

As part of an exclusive offer for anglers wishing to learn more about fly fishing on the River Annan, we are pleased to announce a weekend of guided fishing workshops.

Saturday 9th April – Spring Salmon Fishing
Sunday 10th April – Specimen Brown Trout Fishing

Each morning anglers will meet at Hoddom Castle at 9am each morning for breakfast and introductory session before heading to the river.

The cost is just £30 per day or £50 for anglers attending both days.

We anticipate that demand will be high so early booking is advised.

Dee Junior Day 16th April

Aberdeen & District Angling Association are hosting a junior day on 16th April with tuition  from Graeme Simpson AAPGAI. The event FREE and is limited to 8 young people. Equipment is also available, please contact Julia to book a space.

RSAA Spey Junior Day’s April 

Kellas Trout Fishery –Sun 24th April and Sun 29th May– 12noon to 4pm

Fishing Course River Nith

Game Angling Instructor Ian Griffin, Cheshire Fly Fishing’s Casting Instructor/Guide is hosting the first of his 2 days fishing courses on the River Nith at Friars Carse this April.

April 17th, 18th & 19th 2016
Arrive for group dinner on the 17th. Instruction/fishing/guiding on the 18th & 19th April.
Night time Sea Trout fishing may be an option for those who want to try it.

Tay Salmon Course

Due to a cancellation two places are now available on the 3 day spring salmon course on Lower Kinnaird beat on the River Tay, 23rd-25th May.

Three day spring salmon fly fishing courses include tuition with AAPGAI Masters’ Illtyd Griffiths, Bob Sherwood and Glyn Freeman. These fly fishing courses are designed to suit the novice, intermediate or the advanced level angler and are tailor made to meet your aspirations.

The cost includes three days fishing permits, equipment if needed, tuition with three instructors, lunch and evening dinner, two nights accommodation with breakfast.

Tyne – Junior Trout Day River Rede 30th April

The Northumbrian branch of the S&TU are hosting a junior trout day on the River Rede, Saturday 30th April. The event is free.

Tackle and tuition from Level 2 coaches will be provided. We have 10 junior places available – children need to be 10 years of age or older – no experience of fishing necessary. The day will start at 10am and end about 4pm.

Salmon Fishing – River Tyne 7th May

Are you a member of the S&TC and would like to go fish the River Tyne. Chollerton beat is located between Chesters and Chipchase in some of Northumberland’s most picturesque surroundings and offers classic North Tyne Salmon fishing across its 1.5 mile length and seven named pools.

Saturday 7th May – the day is free of charge and is only available to 3 members of the S&TU. If you would like to attend please email Branch Secretary Phil Adams on – succesful names will be drawn out of a hat on 16th April and will be contacted by Phil.

The day has been kindly given to the Northumberland Branch S&TC by the beat owner.

Ladies Day River Ure 21st May

AAPGAI casting instructor and guide Brian Towers and his wife Sue of Yorkshire Fly Casting have organised a ladies day on two stretches of double bank fishing within the beautiful Wensleydale countryside. This event is ideal for ladies who wish to go fishing for the first time for salmon and/or trout.

The day includes tuition and your fishing permit for salmon and trout. Instruction, and guiding with Brian Towers.

Sue will be preparing a buffet lunch using local produce served in the fishing hut. Refreshments during the day are included. Equipment can be provided if required. The price for the day is £100 and is limited to 6 places – please contact Sue Towers on 07939 525066 or email

Ladies Day Bossington Estate, Hampshire.

Thursday 5th May is a day out for the girls learning the fine art of fly fishing with AAPGAI Gilly Bate on the aquifer fed lake at the glorious Bossington Estate in Hampshire

The emphasis is on enjoyment of the sport however by the end of the day you should have a solid grounding in fly fishing and have confidence to join others for a day of fishing.

Ladies Day River Kennet Carriers

An introductory day to Chalk stream fishing on the river Kennet Carriers for those wanting to take the next step with Gilly Bate (AAPGAI) on Saturday 4th June.

Learn how to stalk your fish, cast a line with skill and present your fly delicately to a rising fish. River craft and line management are the key elements in catching crafty trout but also an understanding of which fly to use is essential to increase your chances of success.
