We were lucky enough to have Clayton as our guide who taught us how to fish for salmon that we could clearly see using both weighted nymph and shrimp techniques. It was quite a revelation to see how fish responded to our efforts. Clayton was not only an enthusiastic and passionate fisherman but also a patient teacher. Numerous times he would find us another salmon to fish for having spooked the previous one with a misplaced cast or shadow.
It was refreshing to see salmon that you were fishing for – despite not catching one the rod on the beat above had 4 fish and was off after lunch. Looking at the records this sort of catch seems to be quite commonplace and on the doorstep for many of us – quite something to bear in mind as you pass Penrith half way to your fishing destination
I am very grateful to Anne Woodcock and Lyndsey Farmiloe for a great day
