The Famous Grouse Experience

Whether the river is in flood again or you are just looking for a day off from fishing; why not visit Scotland’s oldest distillery and home of Scotland’s favourite whisky The Famous Grouse?

Open all year, 7 days a week – The Famous Grouse Experience is the ideal “Scottish weather” day out!

Most Anglers enjoy a wee dram now and again and The Famous Grouse Experience, based at Glenturret dates back to 1775, to the days of prohibition and boasts a wealth of history. Traditional methods of production of Glenturret single malt are still used today with only about 160,000 litres produced annually, most of which are used in the well-loved blend of The Famous Grouse.

With a range of tours to suit the whisky novice to the expert, visitors learn about both single malt (The Glenturret) and blended whisky (The Famous Grouse) on every tour. A two for one experience! A modern interactive zone opened in 2011 and visitors get to experience a “flight with the grouse” on the BAFTA Award winning interactive show – the first use of this type of technology in the UK!

The choice of tours include an Experience Tour (£8.95) with 2 tastes of whisky and The Celebration Tour £14.95 – a limited edition tour to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Famous Grouse Experience and includes 5 tastes of whisky.

Seasonal tours run throughout the year, with this Season’s focus on whisky and food matching with a whisky glass to take home, seasonal prices from £20.

A connoisseur’s choice is also offered and must be pre booked in advance. This can include an exclusive tour of the bonded warehouse or a “blend your own whisky” session, prices from £40 per person.

On 12th August 2012 The Famous Grouse set a new Guinness World Record for the world’s largest bottle of whisky. The bottle is a sight to behold, standing at 5ft 5” tall and holding 228 litres of the amber nectar. See it for yourself on tour.

There is a café on site and a well-stocked whisky bar and shop selling exclusive blends and single malts. With free parking the distillery is located in scenic Crieff, only 30 minutes west of Perth and an hour from Edinburgh and is open to the public 7 days a week, all year.

Café & Shop open 9am – 6pm daily, first tour 9.30am, last tour 4.30pm with tours running regularly throughout the day. (Seasonal opening hours in January & February from 10am first tour 10.30am last tour 3pm, closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day & 1st January)

VIP tours, private dining and meeting space are all available and a quote can be provided for a private whisky tasting at your own choice of venue on request.
