Tayside Hotel the perfect base for those fishing lower Tay beats

Feb 23, 2012 | Uncategorized

Just 5 miles from Perth and within a few minutes from some of the best fishing beats on the River Tay, the Tayside Hotel in Stanley is the perfect base for fishermen to relax and enjoy good food and drink.  The hotel’s Fisherman’s Bar is the perfect place to enjoy a good meal and chat with friends about the successes of the day or maybe reminisce about the ‘one that got away’.  For those who prefer the more informal atmosphere of the Public Bar there is also the opportunity to play darts or pool.

For more than 100 years the Tayside hotel has looked after the needs of visiting fisherman.  Nowadays a dedicated fishing store is provided to safely house their rods and other equipment and there is also a freezer to keep their catch fresh.  The hotel boasts 14 well set-up and comfortable en-suite guest rooms and specialises in providing good traditional home cooking using locally sourced products wherever possible.

To help make the day’s fishing experience very special the hotel can provide a delicious Fishermans Picnic – anything from a snack to a full 3-course meal along with wine or spirits of choice –  all delivered directly to a fishing beat.

The hotel is also ideally located for those who want to explore the area a little further.  A short drive north will take you right in to the Cairngorms to experience the wild beauty of the Scottish Highlands.  Historic St Andrews, the home of golf, is around one hour’s drive to the South East – in fact there are 50 golf courses within 50 minutes drive of the hotel and, with the Perthshire Green Card, 19 of these can be played at discounted rates.  Edinburgh, Stirling and Glasgow are all within a 2 hour drive from the hotel.

The Tayside hotel remains a favourite for many fishermen, who return to sample its hospitality year after year.
