Lobsters on the Fly

In the UK we are all aware of the Big Fish Fight. Across the pond in New England Lobsters on the Fly is dedicated to supporting Maine’s fishermen. Working together as a community they are a critical step forward in the battle to save their community-based fishing fleet.

Two weeks ago the New England Fisheries Management Council voted to address fleet diversity as a priority in the upcoming year. This marks a sea-change of sorts considering Fleet Diversity was off the council’s radar as recently as last spring. The change is the direct result of a culmination of efforts by NAMA and partners including fishermen, food system activists, community advocates, and non-profit allies who traveled to testify, recorded video, signed petitions, and spread the message that ‘Who Fishes Matters’.
